DESCRIPTION
The facility features two NHL size ice rinks - NIC1 and NIC 2. It serves as the home rink for the Nanaimo Buccaneers of the Vancouver Island Hockey League (VIJHL).
The Ice Centre was built as a replacement for the Nanaimo Civic Centre which was torn down in 2006
Nanaimo Buccaneers
The Buccaneers joined the VIJHL in 2012 and won the North Division in their inaugural year. Their best season was 2017/18 when they finished with a 37-9-2 record.
Carl Ollech, the former owner of the Kerry Park Islanders, purchased the Buccaneers in June 2020
2019 World Juniors
The Czech Republic held their training camp at the Nanaimo Ice Centre in preparation for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championships, which took place in Vancouver and Victoria. On December 19, 2018, the Czech Republic faced Slovakia in a pre-tournament game at Nanaimo’s Frank Crane Arena.
